Business Challenge
Municipal government of one of the cities in Germany required a solution for tracking and managing a fleet of its road sweepers. One of the major concerns of the customer was to improve the control over the traffic and vehicle operations as well as optimize routes, schedules and related service costs in order to increase the value of services provided to the citizens.
Solution
Being a geospatial solution, GIS Vehicle Tracking system allows the customer to effectively use the synergy of geographically-referenced data with modern information technologies. Intellias has successfully implemented a comprehensive GIS/GPS-based vehicle tracking and fleet management system with extensive visual tracking, reporting, monitoring, controlling and planning capabilities.
Technology Evaluation
As a development platform Intellias has suggested to use Borland Delphi, as a data storage backend MySQL version 4 was chosen. For visualization component Intellias has evaluated several possible GIS libraries, among which were ESRI ArcView and ESRI MapObjects. Eventually MapObjects was selected as a solution optimal on cost and functionality.
Project Functionality
|
The following functionality has been implemented in GIS Vehicle Tracking system:
- Data import from GPS hardware installed on road sweepers
- Pre-processing of data with subsequent import into central database
- Data optimization and approximation
- Advanced and highly customizable statistics module
- Visualization on the city map
- Complex search/view modules
- Data export into different formats
