About the client
Our FinTech client introduced the first digital-only banking services to the German market. Their solutions span Banking as a Service, Payments as a Service, and Platform as a Service. Setting the FinTech standard for next-generation banking, our client has developed a transparent, community-focused API and a unique data collection platform.
Along with traditional online banking services, our client provides many innovative features including crowdfunding, social lending, multi-currency eWallets, cryptocurrency trading (Bitcoin, Litecoin, Ethereum, Dash, and other altcoins), direct money transfers to Facebook friends and phone contacts, and contactless smartphone payments. Investors are even able to store virtual currency as securely as precious metals and cash.
Our client came with the challenge
As the first provider of digital banking services in Germany, our client has a rapidly growing customer base. They’ve developed a large online community of users who receive financial rewards for evaluating new financial products and services. Today, this community has over half a million registered participants who use our client’s payment services – and every fifth is a full-service client of the digital banking platform.
Thanks to easy integration with Facebook, Twitter, eBay, Xing, and other business and social network accounts, demand for our client’s services is growing exponentially. The bank provides round-the-clock support through online chats and forums without owning any physical offices.
To meet increased demand for custom solutions from the end-client businesses, our client needed to extend their software development team to meet growing engineering needs. That’s when they contacted Intellias about establishing dedicated delivery teams to work on several end customer–related products.
Intellias developed the solution
Intellias established three dedicated teams for the banking platform and is working on several projects for end customers.
An essential part of our collaboration is dedicated to development of the Data Lake Platform that allows end customers to effectively aggregate and store large volumes of data from many sources, then rapidly process it for future customization of services. The Intellias team consists of seven specialists (developers, architects, a product owner, and a project manager).
The backend of this solution is mostly realized with Spark technology, and it includes a Web API that lets users access platform functionality. The Data Lake Platform collects extensive data from various services and microservices, including Oracle, SQL, web files, and local file copies. This solution allows users to collect, process, and spin out data for further data management by end customers.
Our client is now preparing to rapidly scale this solution, which has very strict system requirements. With a growing volume of data that needs to be processed, the solution may require other tools to operate safely. Further cooperation will entail a lot of work for DevOps and network engineers to provide a scalable infrastructure.

Right now, our cooperation is in the active engineering phase. Both our client’s in-house engineers and our client’s end customer have successfully transferred knowledge to our dedicated team.
