Our client is a US-based global manufacturer of rubber products. They offer their products for retail sale and operate around 1,100 tire and truck service centers globally. As our client does business in most regions of the world and services thousands of vehicles each day, they needed sophisticated fleet management software to automate document management, simplify the workflow, streamline the overall tire management lifecycle, and increase end user satisfaction by improving the UX/UI of their application.
Our client created the first release of their system in-house and worked with a third-party vendor on the next versions. However, they continued to experience challenges with the performance and extensibility of the platform because of time-consuming operations and the high cost of implementing features. These challenges led our client to feel the need for a brand-new application that would track every job done with tires and immediately input data into their enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. With the aim to improve usability, personalize the user experience, and make the application comply with business flows, they established a technical partnership with Intellias. Vast expertise in mobile and SaaS development based on AWS laaS combined with digital technology consulting experience made Intellias a good match to develop an Android mobile application and cloud-based middleware.
In our experience, in-depth initial research and correct requirements development during the ￼discovery phase are extremely important for creating a solution that delivers maximum business value. Having had an unsatisfying experience with the development of previous solutions, our client could not agree more.
They envisioned each service center worker having a tablet with their app, which would be fast, intuitive, and extremely functional. We approached this project by moving beyond simple improvements; our first step was defining the app’s functional specifications. We aimed to create software that would improve and simplify workflows and business processes. Therefore, we conducted user interviews on-site and observed work at service centers to get deep insights into the nature of our client’s business. This allowed us to cover all necessary functionalities in the new version of the fleet management system:
- Tracking all work done on a tire
- Dismounting tires
- Scanning barcodes
- Resurfacing partly worn tires
- Mounting tires
- Swapping tires
- Retorquing process
- Work on tires
- Tire history
Our team also conducted a workshop with our client to dig into their business context, goals, and resources limitations. Based on information received, we developed requirements and a clickable prototype that underwent acceptance testing with real users and was further improved according to their feedback. After that, we defined an implementation roadmap including a timeline, estimate, team composition, and user story map.
We’re now developing a solution comprising two parts: a native Android mobile application and a full-fledged cloud-based middleware platform for integrating the new application with our client’s existing IT infrastructure and ERP system.
Deep analysis of end users’ needs and close cooperation with our client’s stakeholders during the discovery phase were key to the project’s success. The improvements we’re implementing will increase customer satisfaction and enhance our client’s competitive edge.

This allowed for quick and easy tracking of every single action with tires. The new system saves time for service providers and enables fleet owners to manage vehicle fleets more efficiently. Due to the user-friendly and intuitive UI/UX, tire fitters can do their jobs faster. Also, improved business logic allows fleet customers to get invoices immediately, which has increased billing accuracy and transparency. Additionally, the updated fleet management system eliminates the standard paper job card process, replacing it with electronic job cards that are generated and submitted as work is completed.
